Producer:
From the first moment of production to the final touches, the producers are integral in managing the different operations within the media project. The job comes with a large number of responsibilities and requires a level of professionalism. There are certain attributes and behaviour standards, both professionally and in reference to your character, that one must posses in order to be a successful media producer, Having the correct attributes and character will allow the candidate to carry out the duties expected of them as a producer, as well as widen their responsibilities in this role.
To be successful as a media producer, you’ll have to be able to direct your team in the right direction, ensuring they stick to their deadlines and complete all prescribed work to a certain standard. This falls under management ability. A successful media producer will have harsh but fair management skills, in order to establish themselves as an firm leader. This intertwined with communication skills enables a media producer to get the most out of their team, ensuring the project is not only completed in time, but to as high a standard as necessary. Not only does having good communication and management skills enable you to ensure your team is working to its full potential, it also helps you to establish you as a professional and serious producer, further your sphere of influence and resulting in more project management opportunities.
In order to be both respected and successful, you’ll have to have a high understanding of the field that you are operating in. As a producer, you are essentially the head of operations, so anything that goes wrong affects your reputation as a media producer. In order to eliminate this possibility, having a high understanding and knowledge of the field that you are in is an essential aspect of a media producers role. A high understanding means high expectations, as you know inside and out what it is you are being asked to do. A high level of knowledge results in a level of respect from people working in your team. But not just respect, but also trust, as they’ll know they can go to you if they are struggling with any any part of the project.
An essential skill that is required to be a very successful media producer is the ability to multitask, more specifically juggle numerous task at once. This is an important attribute because the media producer is responsible for overlooking all task and production, that the team, that they are in charge of, produces. This means that they will have a flow of people coming to them for guidance and feedback, as well as having to complete their own tasks to a set deadline. Being able to keep the team organised and working efficiently, as well as ensuring that the task that they have been assigned are all completed to the deadline is a vital skill that all producer's should posses.
Media producers need to be able to listen to feedback and act efficiently and effectively under pressure. The producer will be displaying the work that their team has done to their hierarchy, as they would be the ones to originally set the project. This presentation would result in feedback that would need to be acted on within a certain time limit. If the producer can't keep their teams and their own morale and work ethic up, to ensure that the deadlines are met, this will look bad on the producer, as it would appear that they can't get their team working effectively and can't keep them motivated, it would show them to be a poor leader, swaying hierarchy's away from wanting to work with these people.
